AI in Agriculture

This page covers farm robots and the measurement behind farm claims: soil-carbon credits, the sensors and models that estimate them, virtual fencing, and food companies' regenerative sourcing claims.

Measurement is the hard part. Verra approved VT0014, a tool that lets soil-carbon projects use digital soil mapping in place of some physical samples. [1] In a Colorado trial, steers rotated with Vence virtual fences showed no consistent drop in methane, and emissions per kilogram of gain rose in one pasture pair. [2]

Company figures move with their methods. ADM says its programs covered about 4.6 million acres in 2025, down from more than 5 million the year before, and it switched to a benchmark-based emissions figure. [3] Nestlé restated its regenerative sourcing share to 20.7% after changing how it counts ingredient volumes. [4]

Some companies say credits are now being issued. Loam Bio says a New South Wales grain farm was issued 4,867 Australian carbon credits, a company claim we haven't checked on the regulator's register. [5]

Each case below covers what was deployed, what it cost where disclosed, and what went wrong.
